There’s only 1 thing I’m aiming to do in 2017…

I’m not going to fill you in on my goals for 2017 or what I feel I achieved in 2016, mainly because I’m not feeling overly energised or motivated right now. I actually don’t really believe in January being the month of starting new things or setting goals, maybe it’s the teacher in me that feels a new year starts in September, I’m not sure!

To be honest, I find it a little over-whelming to read all these articles and blog posts about gym memberships, career goals and positivity. I turned 25 on the 30th of December and I think it scared me a little; when I was younger I always thought I’d have everything in place by now – it couldn’t be further from the truth. I don’t have a permanent job – although I’m very lucky to have a twelve-month contract for the 2nd year in a row, in a school that I adore. I can’t join the gym because I’m still on crutches. Infact, I haven’t been able to run in over 2 and a half years, never mind be aiming to complete any triathlons or the likes!

I’ve been thrown quite a few lemons over the past couple of years, and yes there have been some very tough times – but there have also been some amazing ones. I’ve got a boyfriend that supports me in everything I do (aside from cutting my hair – he’s really not digging the shorter length!), I’ve travelled to some incredible places and I’m surrounded by uplifting, supportive and inspiring friends and family. I’d love to say that this little blog suddenly hit the big time – but it hasn’t, however, I can put my hand on heart and say that I’ve never bought “followers” or “likes” on social media and anyone that does follow me, does so because they genuinely like what I do.

There are plenty of things that could be better right now, but there are also plenty of things that could be worse. That’s why the only thing I’m aiming to do in 2017 is to be grateful. I want to be grateful for all that I have and to endeavor to stop comparing myself to others.

I’m sharing this because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who has been on Instagram or Facebook and thought – “If I see another gym check-in or ‘New Year, New Me’ status I’ll scream!” If you’re like me and feeling a little over-whelmed, then focus on being grateful, the motivation will eventually come, and sure by then the gym will be so empty there’ll be plenty of room for us on the treadmill!

With love,
