A Special Trip to Kelly’s Resort & Spa

posted in: Lifestyle & Travel | 4

Hello Pretty People!

Today’s post is something a little different! I’m going to tell you about the special night away that mum and I had last week, in Kelly’s Resort and Spa, Rosslare. I’ll explain why we went and what I thought of the hotel.

So why did we head off to the sunny south-east on a Monday night? Well, as some of you will know, on the 26th of May last year I was in quite a serious car accident. I shattered my right arm, fractured 3 vertebrae in my back and broke my right femur.  Due to my injuries I spent all of last summer in a wheelchair and a back brace from my chin to my hips. There were complications and, in September, the plate in my leg broke, resulting in more surgery…and an even bigger scar.

I realised last year that you should never take things for granted. I’m so lucky to be almost back to normal…I’m in the process of ditching my “granny stick” 😉 I was so blessed to be surrounded by some amazing friends and family who called, visited, sent flowers, card and packages; you’ve no idea how a small gesture can pick you up on a bad day. My family and boyfriend were nothing short of amazing, something I will never forget.

Mum promised me that when I was back on two feet we’d have a night away. Fast forward, a year to the day, we’re in a Junior Suite overlooking the sea in Kelly’s, Wexford.

Mum has been raving about this place for years so I jumped at the chance of checking it out for myself. She was right, I’ve fallen in love! It’s right beside the sea, with private steps down to the beach.

Our room was so bright and airy. I hate when hotel rooms are stuffy at night but there was almost a full wall of windows that could be slid back to let the sea breeze in and they had no external access so were completely safe to leave open.

The gardens make you feel like you’re in a foreign country with palm trees and rock pools. Deck chairs are provided outdoors for those sunny afternoons and as they are just above the beach you can listen to the sound of the sea as you work on your tan. In a conservatory corridor there are comfortable chairs and footstools which look out on the garden and are the perfect place to read a book, or if you’re like me, just people watch! The little walk-ways over-looking the beach and sea are so relaxing, and trust me, with the amount of food on offer you’ll need a little walk!

For those feeling energetic there is a ‘Crazy-Golf’ course, cleverly built into the gardens, and tennis courts. There is a Spa and separate leisure centre (with the sauna looking out on the Irish Sea). For the little ones there are outdoor and indoor play areas and a kiddies club.

I had heard of the infamous “Kelly Belly” after returning from this hotel, but I couldn’t have anticipated how good the food would be. Try as you may to be good, it’s virtually impossible! Since children are not allowed in the dining room, there is a choice of a buffet in the Ivy Room or an a-la-carte menu in the dining room – Beaches Restaurant. This goes for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. It means that the dining room is a relaxed and peaceful place. We had breakfast and our evening meal in Beaches Restaurant and both were fabulous. We had lunch in the Ivy Room and I was so impressed, the selection was huge, from salads to hot food and a variety of fish or meat, not to mention the desserts! There is also La Marine Bistro, however, as we were only there for one night I did not get to eat there. I had a cocktail in there before dinner it was delicious though! 😉

With full board, you have access to freshly made tea and coffee all day and afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is served at 4 o’clock and has a selection of scones, cakes and other beautiful things!

I have to say I enjoyed my stay so much. It was so relaxing. While it is very much a family hotel and there are children, it isn’t an issue as the dining room is a child-free area as is the Ivy Room after 9pm. This family run hotel has such a welcoming vibe; most of the staff have been there for years and are second to none.

I decided last year that life is too short not to enjoy the little things. A night away with friends, your mum or your partner can be just what you need to relax and revive yourself.
